Avau is an Italian niche artistic perfumery brand, founded by three siblings — Leonardo, Carolina, and Caterina Catalani — who represent the third generation of a family with deep roots in the fragrance industry. The very name of the brand derives from the phonetics of “a vow” in English, meaning “a promise”: a common thread that runs through every creative choice. The family history is rooted in the world of Vatican perfumery from the 1980s, continued by their parents with the founding of Finmark, now a leading company in the Italian distribution of artistic perfumery and cosmetics. Avau is born as a third-generation project: Leonardo leads the creative direction, Carolina the strategic one, while Caterina — trained in Grasse, the world capital of perfumery — develops the olfactory compositions. The brand's first boutique opened in Milan, on Via Fiori Chiari, in the heart of the Brera district.
