Maja is a Spanish-origin fragrance and personal care brand, established in 1918 within the Barcelona-based house Myrurgia, founded by Esteve Monegal. Its visual and olfactory identity took shape from the admiration for the dancer Carmen Tórtola Valencia, muse of the Iberian art of the time: the Porta brothers translated her image — in red and ruffles — into the symbol that still distinguishes the packaging today. The original fragrance, created by a Russian perfumer, intertwined spicy, floral, and woody notes in a blend that has traversed over a century and more than twenty-six international markets. Since 2011, Maja has been part of the Grupo Grisi, a leading Mexican entity in beauty and personal care, which has expanded its global distribution while maintaining its Iberian soul.
