A-Derma is a French brand of plant-based dermocosmetics that is part of the Pierre Fabre group, a pharmaceutical company founded in Castres, in the southwest of France. The brand's history dates back to the 1970s when Pierre Fabre — a pharmacist and botany enthusiast — focused on a variety of oats that was then almost forgotten, despite being used for medicinal purposes for over three millennia. From that insight, in 1982, the first product of the line was born: a dermatological soap with oat milk, considered the first syndet (soap-free cleansing bar) ever distributed in pharmacies. The very name of the brand reflects this origin: A for Avoine (oat in French), Derma for dermatological. The active ingredient that unites the entire range is Avena Rhealba®, a selected variety grown using certified organic methods in a fully controlled short supply chain in the southwest of France, of which A-Derma Laboratories hold exclusive use.
