On average, a baby's first tooth emerges between six and nine months. The enamel of milk teeth is not yet fully developed and the teeth are therefore particularly subject to decay. Dentists recommend using a special children's toothpaste as soon as the first baby tooth appears. Since children tend to swallow toothpaste, the product for young children cannot contain more than 500 ppm of fluoride.
