Sandalwood essential oil (Santal album / Santalum austrocaledonicum) is obtained by distilling the wood of the tree of the Santalaceae family that grows in India, New Caledonia and Australia. It is traditionally used for its tonic properties. Chinese and Sanskrit religious rites recall the use of sandalwood.
